    Neck Lift

As we age, our skin tends to lose some of its elasticity and “droop”, especially in areas of the face and body where the skin is very thin. The result can be loose skin sagging in unwanted areas, including the jawline, chin and neck area. These excessive skin folds can cause men and women to feel less youthful, regardless of their age or confidence level. Fortunately, neck lift surgery can reverse these visible signs of aging and give the neck, chin and jawline a firmer, sleeker appearance.

    Overview of Neck Lift Surgery

Neck lift, also called lower rhytidectomy, is an aesthetic procedure aimed at reducing visible signs of aging along the jaw line and neck. Specifically, a neck lift removes excess fat and unwanted tissue, leaving the neck area more contoured and defined. Additionally, during neck lift surgery, the underlying muscles can be tightened and help further define the neck area.

Some patients seek a comprehensive improvement in the overall appearance of the face and neck by opting for a neck lift as part of facelift surgery. However, some other patients do not need a facelift; they just want to do something about the aging appearance of the neck, jawline and sensitive areas of the chin. Either way, a neck lift can meet your needs.

What to Expect from Neck Lift Surgery?

When you have neck lift surgery, the process always starts with a consultation. In this interview, you will have the chance to ask questions you may have and learn more about the options available. We’ll also share some visualizations with you, helping you set the right expectations for what your final results will look like.

The procedure itself is done on an outpatient basis, and although the duration of the surgery varies by patient, you might think it will take two to three hours. Patients are under general anesthesia in neck lift surgery and the procedure itself may include the following steps:

    • Plathysmaplasty: The muscles in the neck will be tightened and bring the structure back around the neck.
    • Skin and fat excision. Loose, flabby skin or fat bulges will then be removed through small incisions, usually made behind the ears.
    • Liposuction. In some cases, it is necessary to use liposuction, especially to reduce the excess fat that accumulates just under the chin.

    Neck Lift Healing Process

Recovery from neck lift surgery is usually very quick and uncomplicated. You can expect bandages throughout the surgical site, but these bandages are removed within the first week. We may ask you to take a few days to rest and recover, and to use cold compresses to reduce swelling. While the pain is usually minimal, we will prescribe medication for you to use as needed to help reduce any discomfort.

We will advise you when to return to work and physical exercise; Of course, our patients can always call us with their specific questions or concerns.

Are you a Neck Lift Candidate?

Do you think you would be a good candidate for a neck lift? A neck lift is recommended for patients who meet the following criteria:

    • If you are bothered by loose skin, oil, or other visible signs of aging around the neck, under the chin, or around the jawline
    • Unless you have any medical complications that prevent you from healing properly
    • If you don’t smoke,
    • If you have realistic expectations about your neck lift surgery and know that it won’t stop the aging process while improving your physical appearance, you can probably be a good candidate for neck lift surgery.

What Can a Neck Lift Treat?

A neck lift can address any of the following:

    • The “jowl” appearance caused by excess skin and fat under the face.
    • Excessive accumulation of fat around the chin.
    • Loose and saggy neck skin.
    • The bands of muscle in the neck that cause unusual-looking lines.

What Can’t a Neck Lift Treat?

On the contrary, there are some things that a neck lift cannot solve, and it is important to be open about it. In particular, it is important to remember that neck lift is essentially restorative in nature; They can improve the appearance of your neck, but are not intended to significantly change your overall physical appearance. In addition, neck lift operations do not stop the aging process; they remove the most visible signs of aging on your neck.

You should also know that there are non-surgical options to help improve the appearance of the neck. These options are not as powerful or effective as surgery, but they can help delay the need for a full neck lift.
